First FleX-RAY article on IOP Journal of Instrumentation

November 07, 2022

The journals of IOP Science by IOP Publishing have been considered safe spaces for science and technology, hosting more than 130 years of valuable research content. The IOP Publishing includes publications from various fields such as biomedical, electrical, mechanical and computer engineering, physics and materials sciences.

In October 2022, the first FleX-RAY article was published in the Journal of Instrumentation (JINST). The title of the Open Access article is “Flexible X-ray imaging detectors using scintillating fibers”. The article has Scott Wilbur, from the University of Sheffield as its principal author and is co-authored by Christos Anastopoulos (University of Sheffield), Martin Angelmahr (Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute), Georgios Asfis (TWI Hellas), Jannis Koch (Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute), Magnus Lindblom (RISE Institute), Kristin Lohwasser (University of Sheffield) and Walter Margulis (RISE Institute).

The article focuses on the early design and simulation work on a novel X-ray imaging detector, the main focus of the FleX-RAY project under the Horizon 2020 programme. The innovative aspect of this detector is that it can produce high-resolution images of curved shapes due to its flexibility. Therefore, the project aims to alter the current rigid state of X-ray detectors and take digital radiography to a new level of X-ray inspection applications.

Last but not least, the article is Open Access and available for everyone to download for free.
